Getting started
Closure is an iOS and iPadOS app for Ontario families dealing with estate planning and bereavement. It serves two groups: people who have recently lost a loved one and need step-by-step guidance through the administrative process, and people who want to organize their own estate in advance so their executor isn't starting from scratch. The app's guidance is specific to Ontario law, government departments, and financial institutions — not generic advice written for other jurisdictions.
No. Closure requires no account, no email address, and no sign-in of any kind. You open the app and start using it immediately. This is intentional — estate information is sensitive, and we believe it should stay on your device under your control.
Closure runs on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It requires iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS 13 Ventura or later. The app is optimized for all three form factors. Your data syncs automatically between devices via iCloud when signed into the same Apple ID.
One purchase of Closure includes three profiles. This is designed for the common situation where one organized family member manages estate planning for themselves and both parents. Each profile is completely separate and independently organized.
Pricing & purchase
The bereavement guidance section — for people who have lost a loved one and need immediate help — is completely free. The estate planning section, which lets you organize your own estate for your future executor, is a one-time purchase of $24.99 CAD. There is no subscription, no annual fee, and no hidden charges.
Promotional codes can be redeemed in the App Store. On your iPhone or iPad, open the App Store, tap your profile icon in the top right, then tap "Redeem Gift Card or Code." Enter your code and the planning features will be unlocked. If you have any trouble, contact us at info@closureapp.ca.
Yes. Closure is a one-time App Store purchase available on any device signed into the same Apple ID. Because Closure uses iCloud sync, your profiles and data are available automatically on all your devices — iPhone, iPad, and Mac — with no manual transfer needed.
Privacy & data
Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit, and syncs automatically across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It never touches any server we operate — we have no backend and no way to access your information. Your data is governed by your Apple ID and Apple's iCloud privacy policy, not ours.
Deleting Closure from your device removes the app but your data remains in your iCloud account. If you reinstall Closure and sign in with the same Apple ID, your data will sync back automatically. To permanently delete your Closure data, you can remove it from iCloud via Settings → your Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
Yes — Closure uses iCloud (via Apple's CloudKit) to sync your data across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This means your estate plan is available on all your Apple devices signed into the same Apple ID, and is kept up to date automatically. Your data lives in your iCloud account, not on any server we operate.
Closure offers two export formats:
.closure export — uses AES-256-GCM encryption (Apple CryptoKit). Your password is run through PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 with 100,000 iterations to derive the encryption key, with a unique random salt and nonce generated per export. This format can only be reopened in Closure with the correct password.
PDF export — uses standard PDF password encryption via Apple's Core Graphics framework. The resulting file opens in any PDF reader that supports password-protected PDFs, including Preview, Adobe Acrobat, and most mobile PDF apps.
Your export password is stored in the iOS/macOS Keychain — never in plaintext. We never have access to your password or the contents of any export.

Using the app
The bereaved path is for people who have recently lost a loved one. It provides sequenced, actionable guidance for the immediate and ongoing steps of estate administration — government notifications, financial institutions, digital accounts, and more. It's available free because we believe no one should be left without guidance in that moment.
The planning path is for people who want to organize their own estate in advance. It walks you through documenting your financial accounts, digital assets, insurance, legal documents, and final wishes — so your executor has a clear picture when the time comes.

Yes. Closure's content is written specifically for Ontario residents. This includes references to the Ontario Estates Act, the provincial probate process (the Estate Administration Tax), relevant government departments like Service Ontario and the CRA, and Ontario-specific timelines and procedures. We do not offer guidance for other provinces at this time.
Yes. The recommended approach is to export your estate plan as an encrypted file and share the password with your executor verbally or in a secure location, or to export a PDF and store it with your legal documents. We recommend discussing this with your estate lawyer as part of your broader estate planning.
No. Closure is an organizational and guidance tool — it helps you collect, structure, and communicate information. It does not provide legal advice and is not a substitute for a properly drafted will or the advice of an estate lawyer. We strongly encourage all users to work with a qualified estate lawyer in Ontario for their formal legal documents.
